11×14, Oil on Linen, this painting is framed in a handmade black frame with 14k gold inset from Ashby Frames.
Before having kids, I was a kids snowboard instructor at The Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah. I saw so many kids try to learn to ski and snowboard and exhaust themselves in the effort. Then, once I had my own boys, I couldn’t wait to take them snowboarding! I always start with teaching them to ski because it’s easier to learn at a young age. This painting is of my son Franklin on his first day of learning to ski. He had been skiing all day and riding down the mountain and crashing and then getting back up again and in this moment he just looked so sweaty and so exhausted. He laid there for a little bit, got some rest and then got back up and learned some more. It always amazes me how trusting and how resilient and how determined young kids can be.
